with this exhale, the dreaming of winter

Journal of Art and Ecology, 2024

This work is the product of a year long enagagement with Walthamstow Marhses, and is comprised of a written text and a series of analogue photography developed with dandelion and nettle gathered from this marshland. Due to the shifting chemical composition of these plants across the seasons, the strength and efficacy of the developer changes throughout the year, creating a series of images which slowly darken through winter as the plants become dormant. It is thus both a poetic, visual record of the shifting materiality of this marshland across the seasons through the mechanics of photography, and a slow and quiet sigh towards the fallowness of winer.

Developed for the 2024 Journal of Art and Ecology, and delivered alongside a performance lecture at the launch.
